Brandy is a professional counselor and play therapist trained in forensic mental health. She has testified in both civil and legal matters on cases pertaining to child abuse and custody issues. With a Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University and a specialized focus on play therapy and trauma, Brandy Rogers brings a wealth of experience to her role as an educator. Her extensive background, rooted in working with children's advocacy centers, key community agencies, and private practice, has honed her expertise in the areas of child abuse, trauma, attachment, and family dynamics. Brandy’s firsthand experience in delivering mental health treatment, coupled with her active engagement in clinical supervision and training, enriches her pedagogy, making her teaching both informed and deeply empathetic.
Beyond her credentials, Brandy’s passion for play therapy and her commitment to empowering future professionals are the cornerstones of her teaching philosophy. Her dedication to the field is mirrored in her ongoing therapeutic work and her leadership at Bright Path Counseling and Consulting, where she balances consulting with a selective caseload, ensuring she remains connected to the practical applications of play therapy. Workshop Description:
This workshop explores how child development informs play therapy practice, helping clinicians distinguish typical versus atypical behaviors and apply developmentally appropriate interventions. It also highlights strategies for effectively engaging parents to improve outcomes for children.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the key elements of pretend play and analyze the relevance of pretend play completion for supporting a developing person’s emotional and mental well-being.
- Identify age-appropriate play behaviors and coping strategies across developmental stages and distinguish them from behaviors indicating potential therapeutic needs.
- List the developmental ages of children from birth through adolescence and match typical behaviors to cognitive, emotional, and social milestones.
- Apply play therapy strategies for different developmental stages to assess and support emotional expression in children.
- Apply play therapy strategies for different developmental stages to assess and develop coping skills in children.
- Compare and contrast how depression and anxiety present in children versus adults, using age-appropriate behavioral, emotional, and cognitive indicators.
- Identify 3 reasons parent engagement improves therapeutic outcomes for children.
- Recognize common barriers that prevent parents from engaging in therapy.
- Compare and contrast directive and non-directive approaches and discuss how each approach influences the therapist’s engagement with parents.
- Describe how attachment styles influence parent participation in play therapy.
- Explain how to assess when and how to include parents in play therapy sessions.

Participants are eligible to receive continuing education credit for our live webinars or in-person workshops only if they are present for the entirety of the workshop during all content blocks. To support participant engagement and learning, breaks are provided throughout the workshop. Full attendance during the designated content sessions is required to ensure credit is awarded.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
If you can no longer attend a workshop you have registered for, you may be eligible to either receive a credit for another workshop, or receive a refund if you are within the refund policy period. All live workshop refunds will be honored, less a $10 processing fee for cancellations received at least seven (7) days prior to the date of a live webinar or in-person workshop. For cancellation or credit requests with 6 days or less notice, a refund less a $55 processing fee may be refunded or credited to another workshop. For same day cancellations for workshops with a waiting list, no refund will be issued. Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds for On-Demand (Asynchronous) webinars due to the fact that once purchased, the participant has access immediately to all materials.
Refunds will also not be issued due to technical limitations of the participant. We provide detailed instructions, and we are happy to assist in this area to a reasonable extent; however, we don’t have the staff to guide you through every step of the process.
