Workshop Description: 

This workshop equips clinicians with practical strategies for integrating parents into the play therapy process to strengthen treatment outcomes for children. Participants explore the benefits of parent engagement, identify common barriers to participation, and examine how directive and non-directive play therapy approaches influence caregiver involvement. The training also examines the role of attachment in parent participation and provides guidance for assessing when and how parents should be included in play therapy sessions to best support the child's therapeutic goals.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Identify 3 reasons parent engagement enhances therapeutic outcomes in play therapy.

2. Recognize common barriers to parent engagement in the play therapy process.

3. Compare and contrast directive and non-directive play therapy approaches and explain how each approach informs parent involvement.

4. Describe the influence of attachment styles on parent participation in play therapy.

5. Explain how to assess the timing and methods for including parents in play therapy sessions to optimize treatment outcomes.

To support participant engagement and learning, breaks are provided throughout the workshop. Full attendance during the designated content sessions is required to ensure credit is awarded.
